Spring 2025 Classes

Semiahmoo Potters Society is now offering classes for the public. Our classes are small, intimate, and focused. This spring we are pleased to offer:

Sunday, June 22nd: Robin Jenkins: Glazing with confidence
Demonstration-based ½ day workshop. Among other things, participants will learn to wax to achieve crisp lines, to glaze large vessels, to tell which glazes will run and which are stable, and to use a compressor to spray on the glaze. Glazing is a part of the process most potters struggle with. This workshop promises to elevate your work with enhanced glazing skills. $75

Sunday, September 21st 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m: Amelia Butcher on Surface Decoration
Amelia will cover some of her favourite surface decoration techniques, which aim to add layers, depth, and complexity to a surface while also focusing on design. Participants will learn to create surfaces that respond to form, make graphic choices that influence the perception and character of a pot, and add a narrative. Amelia will demo her decorating techniques using bisque-ware pots and she will bring some of her favourite illustrated pots to talk about. The class will further focus on how to source imagery and develop your own visual vocabulary. $75

Sunday, October 5th: David Lloyd on pulling and attaching handles
There will be two hands-on ½ day sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. A well-pulled handle is one of those things that so elevates a vessel. When mastered, the technique looks easy, but getting to mastery is not easy. David Lloyd will demonstrate the technique, showing us how to pull and attach handles. Class participants will have three focused hours to learn, practice, and be guided. Each one will receive a leather-hard cylinder to attach as many handles as possible. $75

Private wheel-throwing lesson, ongoing, $175
