Semiahmoo Potters February 2026

Semiahmoo Potters were off to a busy start this year. In January we hosted a hands-on workshop on the 11th with clinician Amelia Butcher which was well attended by potters both from the community and the club. Participants learned how to use waxes, inks pencils and transfers on bisque-ware to enhance their pieces.

On the 18th of January our very own SPS potter Daphne held a community beginner’s class on creating whimsical critter sculptures. Participants learned the hands-on fundamentals of creating and decorating their very own clay animals.

Our first Open House of the year was on the 31st where we welcomed the public in to come and watch as our potters had a decorative glazing skill-share led by Karen and Sandy.

February will continue our commitment to the community. We look forward to sharing the art of ceramics with local Embers. Volunteers will take clay and tools to the troop and help the girls create clay bunnies. Two weeks later, our potters will bring the critters plus painting supplies back to the group and assist them in painting the rabbits. The finished pieces will be clear glazed and fired at our Crescent Park studio. We’re not sure who has more fun, but it’s exciting to see what enthusiastic makers can do!

On the 22nd February lower mainland potter Charmian Nimmo will demonstrate her throwing skills at the Crescent Park Studio(CPS). Our potters and registered community potters will learn how Charmian throws off the hump, creates lidded vessels and uses slip trailing to enhance her pieces. Check out our “Classes” link to register for this Workshop. Spaces are limited.

Saturday, February 28th we welcome the community to our end-of-the-month Open House. Between 10 am and 1 pm come visit Crescent Park Studio, located at 2585 132 St. on the edge of Crescent Park. Observe potters learning how to create and cast handles from member Sue, view and purchase items from the members’ gallery, and tour the site. We look forward to seeing the public at CPS.
