Semiahmoo Potters June 2025
Semiahmoo Potters are preparing for a busy spring. This month we welcome BC Lower Mainland potter, Robin Jenkins, to our Crescent Park studio in a special workshop demo glazing techniques. A master ceramicist with over 30 years developing her craft, Robin will be be sharing techniques with Semiahmoo Potters Society members on June 8th. “I like simple, clean lines with just a hint of detail, something that makes the observer want to pick up my creation. . .” Tsawwassen potter Robin Jenkin’s experience with clay began with classes at Aberthau, West Point Grey. Her education in clay is through classes, workshops, specialty firings, conferences/symposiums, and lots of reading.
On June 22nd Robin will again visit CPS, this time to work with community potters. Registered participants will learn how to wax to achieve crisp lines, tips to glaze large vessels, learn how to tell which glazes will run and which are stable, and demand how to use a compressor to spray on the glaze.
At month’s end 18 SPS potters will be at the Crescent Beach Pop-Up Gallery at 12180 Beecher Street. We ‘re in the Surrey City donated space from Friday, June 27th through Saturday, July 26th, open 5 days a week:
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays
12 noon to 8 p.m. Fridays
closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays
This lovely Crescent Beach venue is a perfect place to bring visitors who want to shop for locally crafted ceramic gifts. The functional and decorative pieces available are unique hand built, wheel thrown, sculpted or Raku forms. Plan to drop by the gallery several times over our month in residence. Potters will be bringing in new pieces as items sell. We enjoy chatting about various forms and potting techniques, as well as providing information about upcoming events and local pottery classes.
